Shear-Induced Anisotropy in Rough Elastomer Contact [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
True contact between randomly rough solids consists of myriad individual micro-junctions. While their total area controls the adhesive friction force of the interface, other macroscopic features, including viscoelastic friction, wear, stiffness and electric resistance, also strongly depend on the size and shape of individual micro-junctions.

Electromagnetically induced magnetochiral anisotropy in resonant medium [PDF]

open access: yes2005 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2005
Chirality has been extensively studied for well over a century, and its potential applications range from optics to chemistry, medicine, and biology. Ingenious experiments have been designed to measure this naturally small effect. Here we discuss the possibility of producing a medium having a large chiral effect by using the ideas of coherent control ...

Investigation of magnetic properties of ferromagnetic thin films with three spin layers using fourth order perturbed Heisenberg Hamiltonian

open access: yesCeylon Journal of Science, 2023
The magnetic properties of ferromagnetic thin films with three spin layers were investigated using fourth order perturbed Heisenberg Hamiltonian with all seven magnetic energy parameters for simple cubic lattice.

Plasticity-Induced Structural Anisotropy of Silica Glass [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2009
Amorphous silica density at ambient pressure is known to depend on thermal history (through the quenching rate) but also, at room temperature, on the maximum pressure applied in the past. Here we show that beyond density, a mechanical loading can endow the structure with an orientational order.

Experimental verification of stress‐induced anisotropy

open access: yesSEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 1995, 1995
RP1.7 Summary During experiments with a triaxial pressure machine in the laboratory a stress history in rock is induced. While loading and unloading the changes in elastodynamic wave behaviour are measured with ultrasonic transducers. These experiments give insight in the influence of a changing stress state on the wave propagation; the rock becomes ...

On Damage Induced Anisotropy for Fiber Composites

open access: yesInternational Journal of Damage Mechanics, 1994
A stress-strain relation on the basis of a homogenized continuum is devel oped from a potential energy function for an elastic material with anisotropic damage. It is assumed that the influence of the state of damage can be represented by a vector-valued function, resulting from an array of surface discontinuities with coinciding orientation such as ...

Anisotropy Induced by Electric Charge: A Computational Analytical Approach

open access: yesPhysics
This paper presents a novel class of interior solutions for anisotropic stars under the imposition of a self-similar symmetry. This means proposing exact solutions to the Einstein field equations to describe charged matter distribution with radiation ...

On Nature of the Induced Anisotropy in the Chemically Deposited Со‒Р Films

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
The induced magnetic anisotropy in the Со‒Рfilms prepared by chemical deposition from liquid solutions in a magnetic field has been investigated. The pronounced difference between the anisotropy values and relaxation times points out the existence of ...

Stress-Induced Anisotropy in Granular Masses

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1985
ABSTRACT Stress-induced anisotropy or fabric in granular masses is discussed on the basis of biaxial compression tests performed on two-dimensional assemblies of oval cross-sectional rods. The fabric of granular mass depends at least on three basic fabric elements: the distribution of the contact normals, the shape of the particles, and the shape of ...

Lateral-drag propulsion forces induced by anisotropy

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
We predict the existence of lateral drag forces near the flat surface of an absorbing slab made of an anisotropic material. The forces originate from the fluctuations of the electromagnetic field, when the anisotropy axis of the material forms a certain ...
