Tunnel-induced gradients and their effect on drag

AIAA Journal, 1996
A wake-induced drag increment is discussed that is independent of the horizontal buoyancy, gradient times volume, form usually used to correct wind-tunnel data. It is shown that the latter form should be used only in connection with externally imposed gradients. An analysis is provided that shows how, contrary to traditional thinking, products of image-

Nonplanar wings with minimum induced drag

Fluid Dynamics, 1993
Optimal bound vortex geometry conditions are obtained by direct variation of the induced drag functional. Problems of induced drag minimization are examined for given bound vortex length and camber (i.e., clearance limits on vertical size) as well as for given wing lift and span.

An Entropy Method for Induced Drag Minimization

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A fundamentally new approach to the aircraft minimum induced drag problem is presented. The method, a “viscous lifting line,” is based on the minimum entropy production principle and does not require the planar wake assumption.
