Membrane-induced tau amyloid fibrils

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
The intrinsically disordered protein tau aggregates into β-sheet amyloid fibrils that spread in human brains afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Membrane tubulation induced by a bacterial glycolipid

open access: yesScientific Reports
Membrane protein integrase (MPIase) is a glycolipid found in Escherichia coli cell membranes. It consists of diacylglycerol and a sugar chain comprising approximately 10 repeating trisaccharide units, made up of three types of N-acetylated amino sugars ...

Induced asymmetries in membranes

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2023
Lipid asymmetry in plasma membrane of eukaryotes is ubiquitous. The first measurements reported compositional asymmetry: phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylserine are mostly on the cytoplasmic leafet, while phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin are mostly on the exoplasmic leaflet.

Simulating Induced Interdigitation in Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2004
In this study we introduce a mesoscopic lipid-water-alcohol model. Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations have been used to investigate the induced interdigitation of bilayers consisting of double-tail lipids by adding alcohol molecules to the bilayer. Our simulations nicely reproduce the experimental phase diagrams.

Membrane-Induced Folding of Cecropin A [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2000
Lipid membranes manifest a diverse array of surface forces that can fold and orient an approaching protein. To better understand these forces and their ability to influence protein function, we have used infrared spectroscopy with isotopic editing to characterize the 37-residue membrane-active antimicrobial polypeptide cecropin A as it approached ...

From two stages to one: acceleration of the induced membrane (Masquelet) technique using human acellular dermis for the treatment of non-infectious large bone defects

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2020
Introduction The induced membrane technique for the treatment of large bone defects is a two-step procedure. In the first operation, a foreign body membrane is induced around a spacer, then, in the second step, several weeks or months later, the spacer ...

Preparation of ECTFE Porous Membrane for Dehumidification of Gaseous Streams through Membrane Condenser

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
Due to the good hydrophobicity and chemical resistance of poly(ethylene trifluoroethylene) (ECTFE), it has been an attractive potential material for microfiltration, membrane distillation and more.

Pressure induced hydration dynamics of membranes [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1994
Pressure-jump initiated time-resolved x-ray diffraction studies of dynamics of the hydration of the hexagonal phase in biological membranes show that (i) the relaxation of the unit cell spacing is non-exponential in time; (ii) the Bragg peaks shift smoothly to their final positions without significant broadening or loss in crystalline order.
