Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Clinical Observations of the Effectiveness of the Masquelet Induced Membrane Technique in the Treatment of Critical Long-Bone Defects of the Lower and Upper Extremities

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Successful treatment of severe trauma and fractures of the long bones with successful healing and bone union is still a significant challenge for surgeons.

Development of Hydrogen-Permselective Porous Membranes Using Radiation-Induced Graft Polymerization

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2020
Hydrogen-permselective membranes were developed using a radiation-induced grafting method. Styrene (St) and acrylic acid (AAc) monomers were introduced into porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes to obtain St- and AAc-grafted PVDF membranes with

Obstetrical forceps-induced Descemet membrane tears

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2021
Obstetrical forceps-induced Descemet membrane tears (FIDMT) are usually encountered during complicated forceps-assisted deliveries. The condition may lead to significant visual debilitation in young children and is frequently ignored due to its low ...

Membrane curvature induced by polymer adsorption [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2001
The phenomena resulting from interaction between polymers and membranes pose important problems for biological applications. Based on a scaling theory, we investigate the spontaneous curvature of a membrane induced by either flexible or semiflexible chain adsorption.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Comparative effectiveness of the Masquelet technique, the Ilizarov method, and vascularized bone flaps in the reconstruction of extensive long-bone defects of the limbs: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesTravmatologiâ i Ortopediâ Rossii
The aim of this meta-analysis — to compare clinical outcomes and complications of the reconstruction of extensive long-bone defects of the limbs of various etiologies in patients older than 18 years using the Masquelet technique, the Ilizarov bone ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

TGFβ-induced changes in membrane curvature influence Ras oncoprotein membrane localization

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In the course of cancer progression tumor cells undergo morphological changes that lead to increased motility and invasiveness thus promoting formation of metastases.

Calcium sulfate induced versus PMMA-induced membrane in a critical-sized femoral defect in a rat model

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Aimed to investigate the characteristics of CS-induced membrane in comparison with the PMMA-induced membrane. Cellular components, histological changes, growth factor expressions of IL-6, VEGF, BMP-2, and TGF-β1 in the two induced membranes were compared
