Initial Characterization of Mutator-Induced Photosythesis Mutations

1987
The chloroplast encodes and synthesizes many of the polypeptides involved in photosynthesis, but it is dependent on the nuclear genome for normal development. Each of the complexes involved in photosynthetic electron transport includes proteins encoded by nuclear genes as well as those synthesized in the chloroplast.

Genetic Aspects of Induced Mutation

1978
Genetic variability within the human species as well as within animal species used for mutagenicity testing may lead to misclassification of potentially mutagenic agents. Such genetic variability should be considered on three levels: uptake of the agent, its metabolism, and its action on the DNA.

Methods for Inducing Mutations

1983
Hundreds of papers have been published dealing with a great variety of different methods for the induction of gene mutations. In most cases, the frequency of chlorophyll mutants in the M2 generations was used as test for judging the effectiveness of the mutagens used.

Spontaneous and Induced Mutation

Nature, 1953
IN his book “Bacterial Physiology” (New York, 1951), Dr. J. Lederberg writes, on page 94: “Not all workers have accepted the duality of adaptation mechanisms. Hinshelwood (1946), for example, has disregarded the selection of spontaneous mutants as an element of bacterial adaptations, apparently in order to bolster the applicability of his system of ...
