High Step-Down Isolated PWM DC–DC Converter Based on Combining a Forward Converter With the Series-Capacitor Structure

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Incorporating switched-capacitor structures into isolated dc-dc converters is a promising approach to alleviate the limitations of topologies fully based on the use of high step-down transformers.

Modelling, analysis, and implementation of a switched‐inductor based DC/DC converter with reduced switch current stress

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2021
This paper proposes a technique for switch current stress reduction in a Switched Inductor DC‐DC Boost Converter (SIBC). The proposed technique comes up with a low‐cost design, high voltage conversion ratio with a less duty cycle value, and lower current

Single‐active switch high‐voltage gain DC–DC converter using a non‐coupled inductor

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2021
A single‐active switch high‐voltage gain non‐coupled inductor DC–DC converter is presented. The introduced converter achieves high step‐up gain without using any coupled inductors or transformers, provides high efficiency, and has a simple control system.

Paul Drude's prediction of nonreciprocal mutual inductance for Tesla transformers. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Inductors, transmission lines, and Tesla transformers have been modeled with lumped-element equivalent circuits for over a century. In a well-known paper from 1904, Paul Drude predicts that the mutual inductance for an unloaded Tesla transformer should ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Micromachined microwave planar spiral inductors and transformers [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2000
A new micromachined planar spiral inductor, with the strips suspended individually, has been fabricated in standard GaAs high electron-mobility transistor monolithic-microwave integrated-circuit technology through maskless front-side bulk micromachining.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...
