Guidance on public reporting of healthcare-associated infections: recommendations of the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee [PDF]

open access: yes
"Embargoed until Monday, February 28, 2005 at 12:30 pm."Since 2002, 4 states have enacted legislation that requires health care organizations to publicly disclose health care-associated infection (HAI) rates.

Impact of International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) Strategy on Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection Rates in the Intensive Care Units of 15 Developing Countries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND. the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) was established in 15 developing countries to reduce infection rates in resource-limited hospitals by focusing on education and feedback of outcome surveillance (infection ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

GLOBAL ASPECTS OF INFECTION-CONTROL .2. INFECTION-CONTROL IN A COUNTRY WITH ANNUAL INFLATION OF 3,600-PERCENT

open access: yes, 1995
The economic crisis that has been seen worldwide affects developing countries such as Brazil even more severely. Worsening budget shortfalls for the healthcare system progressively threaten patient care.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Contribution of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for outbreak investigation of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The value of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy as an investigation tool for outbreaks caused by Acinetobacter baumannii remains inconclusive. Here, we used FTIR as a real-time tool to investigate a carbapenem-resistant A.
