Structure and Biosynthesis of Mangotoxin Produced by the Plant Pathogen Pseudomonas syringae

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The structure of mangotoxin remained elusive for over two decades. Here, mangotoxin was isolated from the native producer, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, and was determined to be an alkyne‐containing dipeptide. Mangotoxin inhibited the growth of multidrug‐resistant human pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Investigating the transmission risk of infectious disease outbreaks through the Aotearoa Co-incidence Network (ACN): a population-based study

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Western Pacific, 2022
Summary: Background: The emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases presents a significant challenge to public health and broader society. This study utilises novel nationwide data to calculate the transmission risk and potential inequity of ...

Five postulates for resolving outbreaks of infectious disease [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2003
Outbreaks of infection challenge the surveillance of infectious disease, but they also offer opportunities to improve and refine it. An outbreak may be the first sign of an emerging pathogen or it may draw attention to a new risk group or route of infection.

Decoding Viral Transmission Dynamics in Structured Populations Using a Microfluidic Herd‐Immunity‐on‐a‐Chip Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A microfluidic Herd‐Immunity‐on‐a‐Chip experimentally recreates structured contact networks to quantify viral transmission dynamics. By controlling susceptible, infected, and non‐susceptible populations, the platform reveals how contact topology governs the reproduction number, outbreak propagation, herd‐immunity–like behavior, and intervention ...

Coupling Exponential Rolling Circle Amplification to Lateral Flow Devices for Point‐of‐Care Detection of Viral RNA

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A new exponential RCA (E‐RCA) system was developed and coupled to a toehold system for release of a bridging DNA, allowing for lateral flow detection. The E‐RCA method uses a secondary primer (P2) that binds RCA products (RCAP) to generate extended P2 products that can re‐prime a partially self‐complementary circular template, generating a complete ...

Mitochondria‐Targeted Multimodal Nanotherapeutics Suppress Oxidized mtDNA‐Driven Inflammation at the Source

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ox‐mtDNA fragments escaping from mitochondria drive robust inflammatory responses. A targeted nanoplatform simultaneously inhibits mitochondrial FEN1‐mediated mtDNA cleavage and scavenges ROS, preventing the generation of immunogenic Ox‐mtDNA fragments. The released SeNPs further promote autophagic clearance of cytosolic mtDNA. Consequently, cGAS‐STING,

Bats as the reservoir for outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases

open access: yesWeekly releases (1997–2007), 2005
A study from China has provided evidence that bats may be the natural reservoir for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)

Social encounter networks : collective properties and disease transmission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A fundamental challenge of modern infectious disease epidemiology is to quantify the networks of social and physical contacts through which transmission can occur.

Intelligent Programmable Membrane Nanosponge for Early Virus Blocking

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A smart programmable nanosponge (ACNPs) displays high‐density viral receptors on its membrane and encapsulates fusion inhibitors to capture virions at the infection source through competitive binding and blocks their entry through protease inhibition for ultra‐early cascade interception. This modular, mucus‐penetrating platform shifts antiviral defence
