Dissociated neurons and glial cells derived from rat inferior colliculi after digestion with papain. [PDF]
The formation of gliosis around implant electrodes for deep brain stimulation impairs electrode-tissue interaction. Unspecific growth of glial tissue around the electrodes can be hindered by altering physicochemical material properties. However, in vitro

Reversible Hearing Impairment Due to Inferior Colliculi Compression by a Pineal Glial Cyst. [PDF]
Pineal glial cysts associated with bilateral hearing impairment are very rare. Here, we present the case of a 13-year-old boy with a pineal cyst, which caused severe bilateral hearing impairment persisting from 6 years of age. When the patient was 6 years old, the bilateral hearing acuity was about 40 dB on audiometry.

Divergent and point-to-point connections in the commissural pathway between the inferior colliculi. [PDF]
AbstractThe commissure of the inferior colliculus interconnects the left and right sides of the auditory midbrain and provides the final opportunity for interaction between the two sides of the auditory pathway at the subcortical level. Although the functional properties of the commissure are beginning to be revealed, the topographical organization of ...

Dbx1 is a dorsal midbrain-specific determinant of GABAergic neuron fate and regulates differentiation of the dorsal midbrain into the inferior and superior colliculi [PDF]
The mechanism underlying the differentiation of the dorsal midbrain into two morphologically and functionally distinct compartments, the inferior colliculus (IC) and superior colliculus (SC), which process auditory and visual information, respectively ...

Measurement of inferior colliculus volume based on MRI image stacks and its relationship with age and hearing status. [PDF]
The inferior colliculus is a key nucleus in the central auditory pathway, integrating acoustic stimuli from both cochleae and playing a crucial role in sound localization.

Age-Related Hearing Loss: Sensory and Neural Etiology and Their Interdependence
Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is a common, increasing problem for older adults, affecting about 1 billion people by 2050. We aim to correlate the different reductions of hearing from cochlear hair cells (HCs), spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs), cochlear ...
