Congenital Absence of the Inferior Rectus Muscle
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1971A case, the eighth one ever reported, of congenital absence of the inferior rectus muscle as an isolated finding, is described, and the literature is reviewed. The patient was operated upon using the technique for correcting double elevator paralysis, and the result is presented.

Congenitally Dysplastic Inferior Rectus Muscle
Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2010The authors report an unusual presentation of an idiopathic congenitally dysplastic inferior rectus muscle that responded well to surgical correction. Isolated unilateral enlargement of extraocular muscles is rare in children, and there is no definite logical explanation for its cause.

Intramuscular Nerves of the Inferior Rectus Muscle: Distribution and Characteristics
Knowledge of the distribution of intramuscular nerves of the extraocular muscles is crucial for understanding their function. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the intramuscular distribution of the oculomotor nerve within the inferior rectus muscle (IRM) using Sihler's staining.Ninety-three IRM from 50 formalin-embalmed cadavers were ...

Traumatic Lysis of the Inferior Rectus Muscle
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2013The study aims to report a rare case of traumatic lysis of inferior rectus muscle after a traffic accident. This is a case report wherein the clinical features, computed tomographic findings, and surgical treatment were presented.A 42-year-old woman complained of double vision and upward deviation of the left eye for 13 months after being involved in a ...

ABSTRACT Full inferior transposition of the horizontal recti (inverse Knapp procedure) was performed on four patients with unilateral inferior rectus muscle weakness. The patients were followed up over time to determine the medium- and long-term effectiveness of the procedure. All of the patients had single binocular vision without the use of

Journal of Binocular Vision and Ocular Motility, 2021
Avulsion or transection of three extraocular muscles following trauma is a rare finding, and there are few case reports and series discussing the approach to surgical repair. The authors report a case of a penetrating metal hook injury resulting in partial avulsion of a medial rectus muscle and transection of the inferior rectus and inferior oblique ...

Entrapment of the inferior oblique and inferior rectus muscles in orbital trapdoor fracture
Orbit, 2021A 10-year-old male presented to our institution 6 days after sustaining trauma to his right eye from a fall. A thorough physical examination could not be done due to severe eye pain and inability to open the eyelids; however, computed tomographic imaging done at this time showed a trapdoor fracture with incarceration of the inferior oblique and ...

Muscular bridge between the inferior oblique and inferior rectus muscles
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2004In this study, we aimed to investigate the muscular bridge between the inferior oblique (IO) and inferior rectus (IR) muscles of the eye.Cohort study. The orbits of sixty intact cadavers with no history of eye muscle or orbital disorders during life were carefully dissected to expose the muscular bridge between the IO and IR muscles.

An anomalous muscle linking superior and inferior rectus muscles in the orbit
Anatomical Science International, 2006Dissections of the bilateral orbits in a 45-year-old female cadaver, who had no ocular movement disorders in her lifetime, revealed anomalous muscles linking the superior and inferior rectus muscles. The muscles, situated between the optic nerve and the lateral rectus muscle, originated from the annulus of Zinn and branched off two heads; one inserted ...
