Quantitative assessment of noise signal information
Automatic Control and Computer Sciences, 2014An assessment of the amount of information that is contained in the intrinsic noise of electronic components is proposed. The results of a computer simulation aimed at the determination of the information nature of the intrinsic noise of electronic components are presented.

Estimating noise and information of multispectral imagery
Optical Engineering, 2002This work focuses on reliably estimating the information conveyed to a user by multispectral image data. The goal is establishing the extent to which an increase in spectral resolution can increase the amount of usable information. As a matter of fact, a tradeoff exists between spatial and spectral resolution, due to physical constraints of sensors ...

Noise-Assisted Control in Information Networks
2007 Frontiers in the Convergence of Bioscience and Information Technologies, 2007In recent years, interesting phenomena were revealed where the inherent noise enhances the adaptability of a system to its changing environment in a resilient manner. The application of such methods can be found in a wide variety of fields, from biology to engineering. In this paper we discuss the application of noise-assisted mechanisms to control and

Signals, Noise, And Information
1992Abstract Synopsis. By a result known as Fourier’s theorem, any repetitive waveform with frequency f can be represented as the sum of a series of simple sinusoidal waves with frequencies nf where n = 1, 2, 3, These components are called the harmonics of the fundamental/. This is illustrated in Fig. 15.1, from which it is clear that the

Information maximizing DAC noise shaping
2014 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2014DACs are usually defined as having a constant number of bits over a contiguous bandwidth. Signals in practice, however, frequently have an information or bit content which is not constant with frequency. As DAC power is a function of bits, this creates an opportunity to design a more power efficient DAC.

Exploring Noise as Information
2018My art practice is based on the study of machines. Instead of focusing on how machines usually work, I discover and explore the noise of machines – both visually and aurally. In my work, I use a photocopier to scan and print the same image repeatedly, which results in the original image becoming distorted and abstracted with noise.

Respiratory noise correction using phase information
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2008Respiratory noise is a confounding factor in functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data analysis. A novel method called Respiratory noise Correction using Phase information is proposed to retrospectively correct for the respiratory noise in functional MRI (fMRI) time series.

Vowel Information in Postvocalic Fricative Noises
Language and Speech, 1983When the postvocalic fricative noises of [s] and [f] are excerpted and combined with vocalic segments having inappropriate formant transitions, vowel quality, or both, the fricative percept is determined by the noise. However, there is often a perception of a diphthong in the vowel.

Information in the presence of noise. Shannon’s amount of information
2020In this chapter, we consider the concept, introduced by Shannon, of the amount of mutual information between two random variables or two groups of random variables. This concept is central to information theory, the independent development of which was initiated by Shannon in 1948. The amount of mutual information is defined as the difference between a
