Holographic Information Retrieval System
Applied Optics, 1974We describe in this paper the organization and operation of an exploratory holographic library information processing system successfully demonstrated in our laboratory. This system consists of a recording stage and an information-retrieval and readout stage, all of which are controlled by a minicomputer.

Image retrieval for information systems
SPIE Proceedings, 1995In order to retrieve a set of intended images from a huge image archive, human beings think of special contents with respect to the searched scene, like a countryside or a technical drawing. Therefore, in general it is harder to retrieve images by using a syntactical feature- based language than a language which offers the selection of examples ...

Expert systems and information retrieval
ACM SIGIR Forum, 1987The existing bibliographic retrieval systems are too complex to permit direct on-line access by untrained end users. Expert system approaches have been introduced in the hope of simplifying the document indexing, search and retrieval operations and rendering these operations accessible to end users.

An information retrieval system for software components
ACM SIGIR Forum, 1988This paper describes an information retrieval system which is specifically designed to be used for storing and retrieving information about software components. Rather than use a retrieval mechanism which is simply based on keyword descriptions, we have made use of developments in natural language research to represent component information in a form ...

A SPEECH UNDERSTANDING SYSTEM FOR INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 1994This paper describes a Continuous Speech Understanding System that allows information services to be accessed through the telephone line. It accepts queries within a restricted semantic domain, expressed in free but syntactically correct natural language, with a lexicon of the order of 800 words. In the implementation here described, a user can access

Everyman's information retrieval system
Communications of the ACM, 1963The information retrieval problem whose solution is presented here was posed by a technical library with limited budget and personnel. The solution, however, is quite general and is applicable to many different types of retrieval problems. Further, the method of solution makes it possible for many groups who have previously dismissed an information ...

Systems and architectures for multimedia information retrieval
Multimedia Systems, 2005In this paper, we provide a brief survey on multimedia information retrieval and we introduce some ideas investigated in the special issue. We hope that the contributions of this issue will stimulate the readers to tackle the current challenges and problems in this highly important research direction.

The Prestel system and information retrieval
Program, 1980This article aims at explaining how viewdata systems work, with a particular emphasis on Prestel. Reference is made to the types of information available from both viewdata and teletext systems, together with suggestions as to how they should be used. Both the system hardware and software are discussed as is the configuration of computers providing the

The cooperative system for information retrieval
Proceedings 20th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society, 2002We describe our information retrieval system which allows a convivial access to databases. It is based on a multi-expert architecture using a database management system and a blackboard to control the progressive analysis of the user's sentence. We have integrated a numerical method based on fuzzy rules to deal with uncertainty.
