SMALL SCALE PRODUCTION OF TOTAL PARENTERAL NUTRITION INFUSIONS [PDF]
The lay-out of a small-scale production facility for the preparation of total parenteral nutrition infusions is presented. Its concept and the configuration of the production equipment and the operational procedures are explained. The cleaning and sterilization process are also described.

Parenteral Nutrition and Infusion Technology
Engineering in Medicine, 1986Parenteral nutrition is used to support life during a period of intestinal failure when nutrients cannot be absorbed through the gastro-intestinal tract. Hypertonic solutions of amino-acids and glucose, with added vitamins, electrolytes, and trace elements, are administered, together with isotonic fat emulsions, directly into the superior vena cava or

omega-3 Fatty acids infusions as adjuvant therapy in rheumatoid arthritis.
JPEN - Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 2010BACKGROUND The present study investigated the efficacy and safety of parenteral omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3 FA) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS We performed a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study in 23 patients

Is there still a role for peripheral parenteral nutrition?
Nutrition in clinical practice, 2009Peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN) is often viewed as the stepchild of parenteral nutrition (PN) infused via a central venous catheter. Anecdotal reports suggest that there has been increased interest in PPN in the United States and even more so in ...

Hypercalcemia associated with parenteral amino acid and dextrose infusion
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1982A patient receiving parenteral nutrition with an amino acid dextrose solution developed hypercalcemia which seemed related to the rate of nutrient infusion. In a retrospective study of patients receiving parenteral nutrition over a 3-month period six of 72 (8%) developed hypercalcemia.
