Obtaining Inherent Water Optical Properties From Apparent Water Optical Properties

Modeling the radiative transfer in the ocean requires the volume absorption coefficient, a, and the volume scattering coefficient, b. These are generally not measured during ocean optical field experiments, rather one typically finds that the apparent optical properties are measured or at least derived from irradiance measurements.
