Inhibition of development of Shiga toxin-converting bacteriophages by either treatment with citrate or amino acid starvation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objectives: Shiga toxin–producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are pathogenic strains, whose virulence depends on induction of Shiga toxin–converting prophages and their subsequent lytic development.

Corrosion inhibition of carbon steel by sodium metavanadate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electrochemical Science and Engineering, 2012
The inhibition efficiency of sodium metavanadate (SMV)-adipic acid (AA) system in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm of Cl- has been evaluated by weight-loss method; 250 ppm of SMV exhibits inhibition ...

Synthesis, Characterization, and Electrochemical Study of Novel Porphyrin Derivatives as Corrosion Inhibitors for Carbon Steel in HCl Solutions

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry
This study involves the synthesis of some porphyrins derivatives, these are termed as 4,4',4'',4'''-(porphyrin-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis(N-(6-aminoacridin-3-yl)benzamide) (3a), 4,4',4'',4'''-(porphyrin-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis(N-(5-methoxybenzo[d ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

An integrated study of CaCO3 formation and inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The management of mineral scale is a challenge in many industrial fields and environmental issues relating to eutrophication are leading industry to develop environmentally-friendly solutions to scale control.

The effect of episodic retrieval on inhibition in task switching: a diffusion model analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Inhibition in task switching is inferred from [Formula: see text] task repetition costs: slower response times and poorer accuracy for ABA task switching sequences compared to CBA sequences, thought to reflect the persisting inhibition of task A across ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

FNC efficiently inhibits mantle cell lymphoma growth

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
FNC, 2'-deoxy-2'-β-fluoro-4'-azidocytidine, is a novel cytidine analogue, that has shown strong antiproliferative activity in human lymphoma, lung adenocarcinoma and acute myeloid leukemia. In this study, we investigated the effects of FNC on mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and the underlying mechanisms.

Surface plasmon polariton modification in top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes for enhanced light outcoupling

open access: yes, 2014
We report on the enhanced light outcoupling efficiency of monochrome top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). These OLEDs incorporate a hole transport layer (HTL) material with a substantially lower refractive index (∼ 1:5) than the emitter ...
