The Effect of Initial Momentum Flux on the Circular Hydraulic Jump

Journal of Fluids Engineering, Transactions of the ASME, 2015
Earlier studies on the circular hydraulic jump have shown that the radial position of the hydraulic jump depends on the flow rate, gravity, and fluid viscosity. In this study, results from numerical simulations and experiments on circular hydraulic jumps are presented and through analysis, it is shown that the momentum flux is an additional controlling

The Effect of Initial Knee Angle on Concentric-Only Squat Jump Performance

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 2017
There is uncertainty as to which knee angle during a squat jump (SJ) produces maximal jump performance. Importantly, understanding this information will aid in determining appropriate ratios for assessment and monitoring of the explosive characteristics of athletes. This study compared SJ performance across different knee angles-90º, 100º, 110º, 120º ...

Influence of Initial Foot Dorsal Flexion on Vertical Jump and Running Performance

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2010
Several studies (on an inclined platform or with special shoes) have reported improved jump performance when the ankle was in a dorsiflexion (DF) position. The present study aims to test whether shoes inducing moderate DF modify vertical jump performance and energy cost.

Neuromechanical strategies employed to increase jump height during the initiation of the squat jump

Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2004
The maximal height attained in a vertical jump is heavily influenced by the execution of a large countermovement prior to the upward motion. When a jump must be executed without a countermovement, as in a squat jump, the maximal jump height is reduced. During such conditions, the human body may use other strategies in order to increase performance. The

Vibration and Jumping of Ferrofluid Marbles under an Initial Magnetic Perturbation

Langmuir, 2023
Liquid marbles are being promoted as a replacement for conventional droplets in digital microfluidics. Liquid marbles can be remotely controlled by an external magnetic field if ferrofluid is utilized as their liquid cores. In this study, the vibration and jumping of a ferrofluid marble is experimentally and theoretically investigated.

Locust-inspired jumping robot with the initial jumping posture control

2016 IEEE International Conference on Real-time Computing and Robotics (RCAR), 2016
To improve the jumping performance, this paper presents a locust-inspired jumping robot with initial body posture adjustment and self-righting mechanisms. A segmental gear, stretching and triggering the spring for storage and rapid release of energy, is used for the jumping mechanism.

On initial instantaneous jumps of singular systems

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1995
Summary: This paper is concerned with instantaneous jumps in the state trajectory of a singular system. it is shown that such jumps generically exist at the initial time due to inconsistent initial states. The formula for the jumps is derived, which indicates that the jumps linearly depend on the initial state.

Optimization of the Initial Deformed Shape of a Circular Elastic Jumping Robot

2020 3rd IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics (RoboSoft), 2020
A circular elastic robot, which can move and jump by deforming its outer shell was studied in this paper. Previous research has confirmed that the initial deformed shape of the robot significantly affects its jumping height. However, the deformed shape needed for the highest jump has not been confirmed.

Coupling of flight initiation to the jump in locusts

Journal of Comparative Physiology A, 1986
1. In adult locusts' wing opening for flight occurs soon after a jump is triggered. Previous studies have shown that the interval between the triggering of a jump and the initial wing movement (or the start of elevator muscle activity) is often too short for either the loss of tarsal contact with the ground or the self-generated air stream on the ...
