The mass ratio and initial mass functions in spectroscopic binaries [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2010
Context. Spectroscopic binaries are important in studies of binary star-formation, since original information linked to the forming stars, such as the mass ratio, can be kept in the system and observationally retrieved. Aims. We aim to derive the more probable mass ratio distributions, to test a possible Initial Mass Functions acting on the formation ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Constraining the z ∼ 1 Initial Mass Function with HST and JWST Lensed Stars in MACS J0416.1−2403

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Our understanding of galaxy properties and evolution is contingent on knowing the initial mass function (IMF), and yet to date the IMF is constrained only to local galaxies.

A Census of the 32 Ori Association with Gaia

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2022
I have used high-precision photometry and astrometry from the third data release of Gaia (DR3) to identify candidate members of the 32 Ori association.

ON THE ORIGIN OF THE SALPETER SLOPE FOR THE INITIAL MASS FUNCTION [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2011
We suggest that the intrinsic, stellar initial mass function (IMF) follows a power-law slope gamma=2, inherited from hierarchical fragmentation of molecular clouds into clumps and clumps into stars. The well-known, logarithmic Salpeter slope GAMMA=1.35 in clusters is then the aggregate slope for all the star-forming clumps contributing to an individual

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Why is the Star Formation Rate Proportional to Dense Gas Mass?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
One of the most profound empirical laws of star formation is the Gao–Solomon relation, a linear correlation between the star formation rate (SFR) and the dense molecular gas mass.

STAR FORMATION: STATISTICAL MEASURE OF THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PRESTELLAR CORE MASS FUNCTION AND THE STELLAR INITIAL MASS FUNCTION

open access: yes, 2010
International audienceWe present a simple statistical analysis of recent numerical simulations exploring the correlation between the core mass function (CMF) obtained from the fragmentation of a molecular cloud and the stellar mass function which forms ...

Microlensing constraints on the Galactic bulge initial mass function [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2007
Aims.We seek to probe the Galactic bulge IMF starting from microlensing observations. Methods. We analyse the recent results of the microlensing campaigns carried out towards the Galactic bulge presented by the EROS, MACHO and OGLE collaborations. In particular, we study the duration distribution of the events.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
