Baseline Regional Cholinergic Denervation Predicts Cognitive Trajectories in Moderate Parkinson Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive decline is a disabling and variable feature of Parkinson disease (PD). While cholinergic system degeneration is linked to cognitive impairments in PD, most prior research reported cross‐sectional associations. We aimed to fill this gap by investigating whether baseline regional cerebral vesicular acetylcholine transporter ...

FDG‐PET Associations With Disease Severity and Outcomes in NMDA‐Receptor IgG Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor‐immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoimmune encephalitis (NMDAR‐IgG AE) demonstrate occipital lobe hypometabolism on baseline brain fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography (bFDG‐PET).

Comparison between single point versus double point injection in supraclavicular block incidence: ulnar sparing

open access: yes
Background: This study compared the efficacy of single-point versus double-point injection techniques in ultrasound-guided supraclavicular brachial plexus blocks, focusing on success rate, procedural time, onset and duration of sensory and motor block ...

Onasemnogene Abeparvovec in Type I Spinal Muscular Atrophy: 24‐Month Follow‐Up From the Italian Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Onasemnogene abeparvovec (OA) is an AAV9‐based gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy type I (SMA I). Real‐world outcomes show increased response variability compared to clinical trials, and follow‐up data beyond 12–18 months are limited.

Distribution of radiodense contrast medium after perineural injection of the palmar and palmar metacarpal nerves (low 4-point nerve block): an in vivo and ex vivo study in horses

open access: yes, 2010
REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Evidence-based information is limited on distribution of local anaesthetic solution following perineural analgesia of the palmar (Pa) and palmar metacarpal (PaM) nerves in the distal aspect of the metacarpal (Mc) region ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Three-point Method Nerve Block for Relieving Pain of Microbotox Injection in Middle and Upper Face

open access: yes
Background:. With the popularity of microbotox, pain caused by multiple microdroplets and subcutaneous injection of botulinum toxin is increasing. This study presents a new, refined, three-point nerve block technique that provides effective pain relief ...

CSF Monoamine Metabolites and Cognitive Trajectory in Early Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Imaging and postmortem studies indicate that abnormalities in monoaminergic neurotransmission contribute to cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, it remains uncertain if cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) monoamine metabolites can serve as biomarkers of cognitive decline in early PD.

Mitigate the Hazards of Emergency Atmospheric Venting by Steam Injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
PresentationDuring major plant upsets, it is often necessary to safely relieve the process fluids contained in process equipment. The relieved vapors may be flammable and/or toxic, and the vapor clouds may be within the explosive range. There are several
