A Model for Tracking Fronts of Stress-Induced Permeability Enhancement

open access: yes, 2013
Using an analogy to the classical Stefan problem, we construct evolution equations for the fluid pore pressure on both sides of a propagating stress-induced damage front.

Secondary Injection of Gases into a Supersonic Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
The flow field around the injection port for secondary injection of a gas normal to a supersonic stream has been studied in a series of wind-tunnel experiments. The experiments were conducted at freestream Mach numbers of 1.38 to 4.54.

Limitations of the use of pressure waves to verify correct epidural needle position in dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The use of pressure waves to confirm the correct position of the epidural needle has been described in several domestic species and proposed as a valid alternative to standard methods, namely, control radiographic exam and fluoroscopy. The object of this

Intracluster gas pressure, entropy injection and redshift evolution

open access: yes, 2011
We study the effect of entropy injection in the intracluster medium (ICM) in light of the recent observationally determined universal pressure profile of the ICM. Beginning with a power-law entropy profile that is expected in the absence of any feedback,

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Evaluation of rational energy costs for liquid dispersion in piston compressors with a two-phase working fluid [PDF]

open access: yesОмский научный вестник: Серия "Авиационно-ракетное и энергетическое машиностроение"
The paper considers the condition of efficient operation of a piston compressor with coolant injection, which consists in the fact that the costs of its spraying and injection should be less than the gain in indicator work obtained with intensive gas ...

Interaction of GABA and Excitatory Amino Acids in the Basolateral Amygdala: Role in Cardiovascular Regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Activation of the amygdala in rats produces cardiovascular changes that include increases in heart rate and arterial pressure as well as behavioral changes characteristic of emotional arousal.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Variable-area nozzle automatically controls fluid flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Simple, passive nozzle requires no active control system to vary injection area. Injection area changes with changing pressure, thereby allowing greater flow as pressure increases.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
