In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Racial disparities in pedestrian-related injury hospitalizations in the United States
Background Racial/ethnic disparity has been documented in a wide variety of health outcomes, and environmental components are contributors. For example, food deserts have been tied to obesity rates.

Built to Last: Functional and structural mechanisms in the moth olfactory network mitigate effects of neural injury [PDF]
Most organisms suffer neuronal damage throughout their lives, which can impair performance of core behaviors. Their neural circuits need to maintain function despite injury, which in particular requires preserving key system outputs. In this work, we explore whether and how certain structural and functional neuronal network motifs act as injury ...

Injury epidemiology and publishing injury research
In the Dictionary of Epidemiology, Professor Last offers the following definition: “Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events in specified populations, and the application of this study to the control of health problems”.1 I similarly try to define injury epidemiology as the study of the ...

The K+‐Cl− cotransporters (KCCs) facilitate the symport of ions across the plasma membrane. They participate in physiological processes including neuronal regulation. Here, we characterized KCCs from Drosophila and Hydra vulgaris. Comparative analyses of transporters provide insights into the mechanism of KCC ion transport, regulation, and evolution ...

Continuous infusion of an agonist of the tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 in the spinal cord improves recovery after traumatic contusive injury. [PDF]
AimThe activation of the TNFR2 receptor is beneficial in several pathologies of the central nervous system, and this study examines whether it can ameliorate the recovery process following spinal cord injury.MethodsEHD2-sc-mTNFR2 , an agonist specific ...

Automated rapidplan model validation using Eclipse scripting API
Abstract RapidPlan offers efficiency gains and quality improvements in treatment planning. Prior to its use in the clinic, it requires an extensive validation procedure in which established clinical plans and those generated by the model are compared. The manual iterative nature of this process is resource intensive, as numerous iterations are required

A Laser-Guided Spinal Cord Displacement Injury in Adult Mice [PDF]
Mouse models are unique for studying molecular mechanisms of neurotrauma because of the availability of various genetic modified mouse lines. For spinal cord injury (SCI) research, producing an accurate injury is essential, but it is challenging because ...
