Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Integrated gas turbine engine-nacelle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A nacelle for use with a gas turbine engine is provided with an integral webbed structure resembling a spoked wheel for rigidly interconnecting the nacelle and engine. The nacelle is entirely supported in its spacial relationship with the engine by means

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

The $\nu$-cleus experiment: A gram-scale fiducial-volume cryogenic detector for the first detection of coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering

open access: yes, 2017
We discuss a small-scale experiment, called $\nu$-cleus, for the first detection of coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering by probing nuclear-recoil energies down to the 10 eV-regime.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Further Studies of the Distributional Effects of Road Pricing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
This Working Paper extends the study reported in Working Paper 400, which used the MVA START model for London, disaggregated into three income groups for each of car owners and non car owners, to investigate the distributional effects of road pricing in ...

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

The structure of the Tad pilus alignment complex reveals a periplasmic conduit for pilus extension

open access: yesNature Communications
The Tad (Tight adherence) pilus is a bacterial appendage implicated in virulence, cell-cell aggregation, and biofilm formation. Despite its homology to the well-characterised Type IV pilus, the structure and assembly mechanism of the Tad pilus are poorly

Corrosion behavior and mechanism of Cr and Cu alloy weathering steel in simulated marine atmospheric environment

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study developed a novel Cr and Cu alloyed weathering steel, Q345qENH steel, designed for coastal atmospheric environments. A comparative corrosion analysis was conducted between Q345qENH and Q345qd steel using various techniques, including ...
