Transtympanic Injection of Antioxidant‐Eluting Microparticles for Otoprotection From Cisplatin Toxicity in a Mouse Model

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent with the undesirable side effect of ototoxicity. Transtympanic injections of antioxidant formulations may provide local otoprotection. We tested a novel antioxidant‐eluting microparticle for its otoprotective capability from systemic cisplatin as measured by cochlear electrophysiology.

Severe Hearing Loss in Children With Central Nervous System Tumors: A Population‐Based Cancer in Young People in Canada (CYP‐C) Report

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Children with central nervous system (CNS) tumors are prone to treatment‐related hearing loss (HL) and subsequent functional impairment. This study reports a dedicated population‐based analysis of CNS tumor‐specific rates and predictors of early severe HL.

Ammonia to Hydrogen Conversion in a Ferroelectric Packed‐Bed Plasma Reactor: The Effect of a High‐Permittivity Effective Medium Material

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, EarlyView.
Ambient ammonia‐to‐hydrogen conversion is achieved in a packed‐bed ferroelectric plasma reactor. A Ru/Al2O3 coating on PZT pellets acts as a high‐permittivity effective medium, enhancing plasma current and boosting yield to 40%. Catalytic effects are negligible, and conversion is driven by permittivity‐enhanced plasma electrical properties.

Update on Gene Therapy in the Treatment of Hereditary Hearing Loss

open access: yesSensory Neuroscience, EarlyView.
Gene therapy is a promising therapeutic approach for genetic disorders, including three major gene therapy strategies: gene replacement, gene suppression, and gene editing. After transmitting genes to the inner ear through appropriate pathways, repair the cochlea in order to achieve the goal of treating hereditary hearing loss.
