Nitric Oxide Tunes Secreted Metabolite Bioactivity

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 126, Issue 2, Page 145-160, August 2026.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces phenazine metabolites that can react with nitric oxide (·NO) to form nitrosylated compounds. The formation of these metabolites results in rapid loss in P. aeruginosa viability and diminishes phenazine antimicrobial activity against other organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus.
