Endosomal trafficking defects in patient cells with KIAA1109 biallelic variants

open access: yesGenes and Diseases, 2019
The uncharacterized gene KIAA1109 has recently been associated with a congenital neurological malformation disorder that variably presents with arthrogryposis, craniofacial and/or cardiac abnormalities.

Tunable amylopectin graft copolymers for flocculating and dewatering iron ore tailings

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 9, Page 4597-4612, September 2026.
Abstract Polyacrylamide (PAM), the standard flocculant for mining tailings, often produces turbid supernatants and poorly dewatered sediments, limiting water reuse and tailings densification. We synthesized amylopectin‐graft‐poly[(2‐methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (AP‐g‐PMETAC) copolymers with systematically varied graft frequency (N =

Delays in postpartum hemorrhage interventions by race and maternal morbidity

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 2, Issue 5, September 2026.
Abstract Objective Non‐White patients experience higher rates of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) as well as associated morbidity and mortality compared to White counterparts. This study examined whether delays in intervention in patients with PPH varied by patient race and insurance status and whether delays were associated with increased morbidity ...

4‐Ethyl phenyl sulfate binding to human serum albumin

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Protein‐bound uremic toxins (PBUTs) such as 4‐ethylphenyl sulfate (4‐EPS) challenge kidney failure management due to strong binding to human serum albumin (HSA), thus limiting dialysis clearance. This study examined 4‐EPS–HSA interactions using saturation transfer difference nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (STD‐NMR), isothermal ...

Assessment of the Performance of Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay for Chagas Disease in Dogs Using a Reference Panel of Four Chimeric Proteins

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
We evaluated the performance of an indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) assay for detecting anti‐Trypanosoma cruzi IgG in dogs using four chimeric IBMP antigens and latent class analysis. The IIF assay showed suboptimal sensitivity and overall accuracy compared to ELISA and LCA‐based methods.

Pragmatic Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing Rectilinear Biphasic Waveform and Biphasic Truncated Exponential Waveform Shocks for Cardioversion of Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background No adequately powered prospective studies have compared the safety and efficacy of rectilinear biphasic waveform (RBW) shocks and biphasic truncated exponential (BTE) shocks for direct current cardioversion of atrial fibrillation.

Bilateral Blepharoplasty and Shortening of the Third Eyelid Cartilage as Treatment for Chronic Corneal Ulceration in a Giant Rabbit—A Case Report

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 29, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This case report describes the clinical presentation and successful surgical management of a combined dorsal entropion‐ectropion macroblepharon with an elongated and folded nictitating membrane in a 2‐year‐old male giant rabbit. The rabbit initially presented with bilateral chronic, recurrent corneal erosions secondary to abnormal eyelid and ...

Microencapsulation of bioactive compounds from peanut residues: stability study and application in yogurt

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 11, Page 6472-6484, 30 August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Peanut skin, a byproduct of peanut processing, is a rich source of phenolic compounds (520.65 mgGAE (100 g)−1 d.b.) with strong antioxidant capacity, but which remains underutilized. The direct incorporation of phenolic extracts into dairy products is challenging, due to their instability during processing and storage and possible ...
