Erasure Insertion in RS-Coded SFH MFSK Subjected to Tone Jamming and Rayleigh Fading

open access: yes, 2005
The achievable performance of Reed Solomon (RS) coded slow frequency hopping (SFH) assisted M-ary frequency shift keying (MFSK) using various erasure insertion (EI) schemes is investigated, when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels in

Erasure Insertion in Reed-Solomon Coded SFH M-ary FSK with Partial-Band Interference and Rayleigh Fading for Non-Coherent Cooperative Communications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The rationale of our design is that although much of the literature of cooperative systems assumes perfect coherent detection, the assumption of having any channel estimates at the relays imposes an unreasonable burden on the relay station.

Fabrication of Micro-Needle Electrodes for Bio-Signal Recording by a Magnetization-Induced Self-Assembly Method

open access: yesSensors, 2016
Micro-needle electrodes (MEs) have attracted more and more attention for monitoring physiological electrical signals, including electrode-skin interface impedance (EII), electromyography (EMG) and electrocardiography (ECG) recording.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Ultrasound-guided PIVC insertion: a randomised controlled trial protocol

open access: yes, 2023
Ultrasound-guided insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) is an alternative to traditional anatomical landmark-based insertion. However, data on its performance in paediatric patients of varying levels of difficult intravenous access are ...

Surprisingly facile CO2 insertion into cobalt alkoxide bonds: A theoretical investigation

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2015
Exploiting carbon dioxide as co-monomer with epoxides in the production of polycarbonates is economically highly attractive. More effective catalysts for this reaction are intensively being sought.

Structural Origin of Reversible Li Insertion in Guest‐Free, Type‐II Silicon Clathrates

open access: yesAdvanced Energy & Sustainability Research, 2021
The guest‐free, type‐II Si clathrate (Si136) is an open cage polymorph of Si with structural features amenable to electrochemical Li storage. However, the detailed mechanism for reversible Li insertion and migration within the vacant cages of Si136 is ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Bridging the Fields of Solar Cell and Battery Research to Develop High-Performance Anodes for Photoelectrochemical Cells and Metal Ion Batteries

open access: yesChallenges, 2013
Solar-to-electricity energy conversion and large scale electricity storage technologies are key to achieve a sustainable development of society. For energy conversion, photoelectrochemical solar cells were proposed as an economic alternative to the ...

Transposase expression, element abundance, element size, and DNA repair determine the mobility and heritability of PIF/Pong/Harbinger transposable elements

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Introduction: Class II DNA transposable elements account for significant portions of eukaryotic genomes and contribute to genome evolution through their mobilization. To escape inactivating mutations and persist in the host genome over evolutionary time,
