Meniere's disease treated by grommet insertion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
INTRODUCTION: Menière’s disease (MD) is an uncommon cause of sudden profound vertigo. A variety of medical and surgical treatments have been used to manage this condition.

Translocation and insertion of precursor proteins into isolated outer membranes of mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Nuclear-encoded proteins destined for mitochondria must cross the outer or both outer and inner membranes to reach their final sub- mitochondrial locations. While the inner membrane can translocate preproteins by itself, it is not known whether the outer

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Mechanism of Sec61-mediated insertion of proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In eukaryotic cells, hydrophobic signal sequences of newly synthesized secretory and membrane proteins target them to the Sec61 translocon in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Insertion of EGFP into the replicase gene of Semliki Forest virus results in a novel, genetically stable marker virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Alphavirus-based vector and replicon systems have been extensively used experimentally and are likely to be used in human and animal medicine. Whilst marker genes can be inserted easily under the control of a duplicated subgenomic promoter, these ...

Reactivity of Mononuclear and Dinuclear Gold(I) Amidinate Complexes with CS2 and CsBr3

open access: yesInorganics, 2014
To probe the reactivity of gold-nitrogen bonds, we have examined the insertion chemistry with carbon disulfide (CS2) as well as oxidation with cesium tribromide (CsBr3) with Au(I) amidinate complexes. The reaction of Ph3PAuCl with Na[(2,6-Me2C6H3N)2C(H)

Construction of Small-Insert and Large-Insert Metagenomic Libraries

open access: yes, 2010
The vast majority of the Earth's biological diversity is hidden in uncultured and yet uncharacterized microbial genomes. The construction of metagenomic libraries is a cultivation-independent molecular approach to assess this unexplored genetic reservoir.
