Enduring autism‐like phenotypes and deregulated hypothalamic prosocial peptides after early‐life exposure to indoor flame retardants in male C57BL/6 mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are neuroendocrine‐disrupting chemicals that produce adverse neurodevelopmental effects. PBDEs have been implicated as risk factors for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which is characterized by abnormal psychosocial functioning and is commonly comorbid with cognitive deficits and sensory abnormalities ...

Validation of an ELISA assay for measurement of the metabolite of serotonin, 5‐hydroxyindole acetic acid (5‐HIAA), in canine urine

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 67, Issue 8, Page 680-685, August 2026.
Objectives Serotonin (5‐hydroxytryptophan), implicated in a number of canine diseases, has a very short half‐life in the serum. Urine concentration of its breakdown product 5‐hydroxyindole acetic acid after an 8 hour fast is a more reliable measure of circulating serotonin in humans.

(Dis)agreement and concordance of metabolic indices from the oral glucose tolerance test and mixed‐meal tolerance test: Implications for application

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 8, Page 3480-3491, 1 August 2026.
Abstract Metabolic indices derived from the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and mixed‐meal tolerance test (MMTT) are often interpreted interchangeably; however, these tests represent distinct physiological stimuli. In order to examine potential differential metabolic responses to these tests, we characterized the (dis)agreement between OGTT‐ and ...

The effect of evening swimming exercise on sleep parameters in male swimmers

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 15, August 2026.
Abstract We evaluated the effects of evening swimming exercise on sleep variables in male swimmers. In a crossover design, 12 competitive male swimmers completed two trials (6:30–8:30 pm): the high‐intensity swimming exercise condition (EX) and no‐exercise condition (CON).
