Propeller-Type Wall-Climbing Robot for Visual and Hammering Inspection of Concrete Surfaces
Periodic inspections are necessary in maintaining concrete infrastructures. As efficient and low-cost inspection methods, visual inspection robots and hammering inspection robots to detect cracks and internal defects have been developed, respectively ...

An Improved Robot for Bridge Inspection [PDF]
This paper presents a significant improvement from the previous submission from the same authors at ISARC 2016. The robot is now equipped with low-cost cameras and a 2D laser scanner which is used to monitor and survey a bridge bearing. The robot is capable of localising by combining a data from a pre-surveyed 3D model of the space with real-time data ...

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Control of free-flying space robot manipulator systems [PDF]
New control techniques for self contained, autonomous free flying space robots were developed and tested experimentally. Free flying robots are envisioned as a key element of any successful long term presence in space.

Design and optimal springs stiffness estimation of a Modular OmniCrawler in-pipe climbing Robot
This paper discusses the design of a novel compliant in-pipe climbing modular robot for small diameter pipes. The robot consists of a kinematic chain of 3 OmniCrawler modules with a link connected in between 2 adjacent modules via compliant joints. While

Plant inspection and maintenance robots.
This paper deals with robots employed for inspection and maintenance work in plants, which has been conventionally performed by human operators. The work is usually dangerous and hazardous, since it must be carried out in a hostile environment. Modern robotic technology can replace the work of humans with robots in chemical plants, nuclear power plants,
