PRIMA: study for a dual-beam instrument for the VLT Interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 1998PRIMA (instrument for Phase-Referenced Imaging and Microarcsecond Astrometry) is a conceptual study for a single-baseline dual-feed instrument for the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), which is under construction by the European Southern Observatory on Cerro Paranal in Chile. The goals of PRIMA include narrow-angle astrometry with a precision

The new classic instrument for the navy precision optical interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2016The New Classic instrument was built as a electronics and computer upgrade to the existing Classic beam combiner at the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI). The classic beam combiner is able to record 32 of 96 available channels and has a data throughput limitation which results in a low duty cycle.

Instrumentation development and testing for the ALBATROS low-frequency interferometer
2022The cosmic dark ages was an early period in the universe’s history beginning after recombination and lasting until the birth of the first stars. The 21-cm emission from neutral hydrogen in this era provides a valuable tracer with which to probe the state and evolution of the early universe.

The VLT Interferometer: a unique instrument for high-resolution astronomy
SPIE Proceedings, 2000The Very Large Telescope (VLT) Observatory on Cerro Paranal (2635 m) in Northern Chile is approaching completion in this year when the fourth of the 8-m Unit Telescopes will see first light. At the same time, the preparation for first fringes of the VLT Interferometer (VLTI) is advancing rapidly with the goal of having the first fringes with two ...

Far-infrared Interferometer Instrument Simulator (FIInS)
2016The Far-infrared Interferometer Instrument Simulator, FIInS, is an instrument simulator for a Far-infrared Spectro-Spatial Interferometer. The main goal is to simulate both the input and the output of such a system, and compare the input sky map with the synthesised one after data processing algorithms have been applied.

Development activities for interferometer-based hyperspectral sounder instrument
SPIE Proceedings, 2009A development program was conducted to further improve the technology readiness level of the Generic Flight Interferometer (GFI), a candidate technology for the future hyperspectral sounder on MTG. Interferometer-based sounders have already demonstrated their performance and reliability in conducting advanced sounding tasks in recent missions (METOP-

Next Generation Instrumentation for the Very Large Telescope Interferometer
Astrophysics and Space Science, 2003The scientific capabilities of the VLT Interferometer can be substantially enhanced through new focal-plane instruments. Many interferometric techniques — astrometry, phase-referenced imaging, nulling, and differential phase measurements — require control of the phase to ≲ 1 rad; this capability will be provided at the VLTI by the PRIMA facility. Phase-

Laser Interferometer Instrumented in a Disk Antenna for Gravitational Radiation
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1991Disk antennas combined with a laser interferometer as a displacement transducer can be made into highly sensitive, wideband detectors for gravitational radiation. The proposed detector system, which operates at room temperature, has a minimum detectable amplitude of gravitational radiation, h min=4×10-18, and a detection ...

The flight instrument design for the Terrestrial Planet Finder Interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2005This paper describes the opto-mechanical systems of the telescopes and beramcombiner spacecraft including the wavefront and optical path control devices and alignment systems. The mechanical layouts of the spacecraft are described along with the predicted performance of the structure in terms of thermal and vibration control.
