The Pierce Acoustic Interferometer as an Instrument for the Determination of Velocity and Absorption

Physical Review, 1929
Sputtered quartz crystals of known natural frequency were used as sources of high frequency sound in a Pierce acoustic interferometer. The interfering sound waves react on the crystal driver in such a way as to change periodically the plate current, ${I}_{p}$, when the mirror is displaced a half wave-length or more.

Space interferometer mission (SIM) instrument design concepts

1999 IEEE Aerospace Conference. Proceedings (Cat. No.99TH8403), 1999
SIM is a 12 meter baseline interferometer to be built as part of the NASA Origins program, designed to fly in space and provide high precision astrometry measurements of astronomical objects. SIM will provide angular measurements three orders of magnitude more precise than current space or ground based sensors, allowing the indirect detection of Earth ...

Instrumental factors affecting the fringe contrast in optical interferometers

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1990
Interference fringes are the prime observable quantity in astronomical optical and radio interferometers. To maximize the signal-to-noise ratio it is important to keep instrumental causes of fringe contrast decrease to a minimum. I discuss these and derive the tolerances to be, placed on them.

Ultimate sensitivity of a reflection interferometer with a noninverted instrumental function

Optics and Spectroscopy, 2004
Properties of a multiple-beam interferometer with a transmission-like pattern of the fringes in reflected light are considered. A specific feature of this interferometer (a transmission-like reflection interferometer, or TRI) is an asymmetric one-sided mirror with a multilayer dielectric coating and a thin absorbing film. Characteristics of the mirrors
