Preclinical efficacy of a modified gamma-globin lentivirus gene therapy in Berkeley sickle cell anemia mice and human xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Methods & Clinical Development
We previously showed correction of sickle cell anemia (SCA) in mice utilizing a lentiviral vector (LV) expressing human γ-globin. Herein, we made a G16D mutation in the γ-globin gene to generate the G16D mutation (GbGM) LV to increase fetal hemoglobin ...

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Insulation Workers

open access: yes, 2000
Insulation workers apply insulation materials on objects and buildings for thermal insulation and/or waterproofing. They are frequently outdoor workers and they are exposed to insulation materials, especially mineral fibers, foams, adhesives, and bitumen.

Optical response of a topological-insulator--quantum-dot hybrid interacting with a probe electric field

open access: yes, 2020
We study the interaction between a topological insulator nanoparticle and a quantum dot subject to an applied electric field. The electromagnetic response of the topological insulator is derived from axion electrodynamics in the quasistatic approximation.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

An Automatic Recognition and Defect Diagnosis Model of Transmission Line Insulator Based on YOLOv2 Network

open access: yesZhongguo dianli, 2019
Aiming at the transmission line insulator images obtained by drones or robots, this paper proposes an online recognition and defect diagnosis model of transmission line insulators based on YOLOv2 network.

Mechanism Design of an Insulator Cleaning Robot for Suspension Insulator Strings

open access: yes, 2015
Cleaning contaminated insulators is an effective way to protect power transmission lines from accidental power outages caused by flashovers due to wet polluted insulators. Traditional cleaning methods are risky, inefficient, expensive and labor-intensive.

Wearable Smart Patches on Sustainable Chitosan With Reversible Microbial Growth‐Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitosan, a polysaccharide upcycled from biowaste, has long promised sustainable, biocompatible, and antimicrobial films and devices, an appeal reinforced by its recent regulatory recognition, with several chitosan‐based antibacterial dressings gaining clearance through the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) pathway.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.
