Abstract Alcohol ingestion and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) have been associated with increased breast cancer risk, the latter primarily in premenopausal women. We investigated whether alcohol ingestion altered IGF-I or its major binding protein (BP), IGFBP-3, in a controlled feeding study in premenopausal women.

Background: Many epidemiologic studies examine the effects of single measurements of hormones, including those related to obesity such as insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) or leptin, on disease associations; however, few studies have determined whether these single values accurately reflect measurements over time.

A case of growth retardation in a bull is reported. Serum concentration of insulin-like-growth-factor-I, insulin-like-growth-factor-binding-protein-3, insulin, C-peptide, T3, T4, and fT4 were low compared with a normal growing bull in the same age. The causes of growth retardation are discussed.

Fluoroquinolones (FQs), commonly known for their antibiotic properties, exhibit additional pharmacological potential with anti-proliferative effects on various malignant cell types and immunomodulatory responses. Despite these observed effects, the precise mechanisms of action remain elusive.

Use of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein 3 for the Evaluation of Growth Disorders
Hormone Research, 2008A specific radioimmunoassay for insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), developed against its binding subunit (IGFBP-3β), was used to investigate its diagnostic potential for the evaluation of growth disorders. Various factors were found to influence serum IGFBP-3.
