Vertex balding, plasma insulin-like growth factor 1, and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2000
A recent report suggested that men with vertex balding have higher levels of plasma insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). The association of its major carrier protein, insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), with male pattern hair loss has not been examined. We evaluated the relations of plasma concentrations of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 with ...

Insulin-like growth factor binding-protein-3 (IGFBP–3)

Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2015
The IGF system comprises two IGFs (IGF-1, IGF-2), two IGF-receptors (IGF-R1, IGF-R2), and six IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) with a high affinity for IGFs. The IGFBPs, of which IGFBP-3 is the most abundant in postnatal blood, link with IGFs and prevent them from being degraded; they also facilitate IGF transport through body compartments.

Insulin-like growth factors, insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 protease, and growth hormone-binding protein in lipodystrophic Human Immunodeficiency Virus-infected patients

Metabolism, 2004
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-lipodystrophy is associated with impaired growth hormone (GH) secretion. It remains to be elucidated whether insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), IGFBP-3 protease, and GH-binding protein (GHBP) are abnormal in HIV-lipodystrophy.

Cellular Actions of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3

1994
Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) plays a major role in regulating growth of cells in vivo and in vitro (1). IGF-I initiates metabolic and mitogenic processes in a wide variety of cell types by binding to specific type I IGF receptors in the plasma membrane (2).

Regulation and Actions of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3

1991
Binding proteins for the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), first described 15 years ago, are now recognized as playing important roles as carriers of IGFs in the circulation, and modulators of IGF actions on target cells 1. Three distinct structural classes of IGF binding protein (IGFBP) have been identified on the basis of cDNA cloning 2–6, and at ...

Serum insulin-like growth factor-I and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 in premature rupture of membranes

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 2002
Background.  The aim of the study was to evaluate whether the circulating levels of insulin‐like growth factor‐I (IGF‐I) and its major circulating binding protein, IGFBP‐3, are affected in premature rupture of membranes (PROM) and preterm delivery.Methods.

Serum Levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-I and Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3 in Obese Children

Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1997
Growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) metabolism may be disturbed in obese children. We investigated serum GH, IGF-I, IGF-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) levels in 42 obese and 40 non-obese healthy children aged 6-14 years. GH stimulation tests with L-dopa and insulin were performed.

Transferrin is an insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 binding protein.

The Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism, 2001
Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) possesses both growth-inhibitory and -potentiating effects on cells that are independent of IGF action and are mediated through specific IGFBP-3 binding proteins/receptors located at the cell membrane, cytosol, or nuclear compartments and in the extracellular matrix.

Serum Insulin-Like Growth Factor Type 1, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-1, and Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-3 Concentrations in Patients with Thyroid Dysfunction

Thyroid, 2001
Thyroid hormones play a role in the regulation of insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) expression, and both IGF-1 and IGFBPs have been shown to be related to the function and growth of the thyroid. Our aim was to evaluate serum concentrations of IGF-1, IGFBP-1, and IGFBP-3 in patients with
