Bovine lactoferrin binds to insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3

Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2003
Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) has been shown to have IGF independent actions that appear to be mediated by specific IGFBP-3 binding proteins located on cell membranes. We show here using Western ligand blotting, a number of mammary membrane proteins that bind 125I-labeled rhIGFBP-3.

Insulin-like growth factors, insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 protease, and growth hormone-binding protein in lipodystrophic Human Immunodeficiency Virus-infected patients

Metabolism, 2004
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-lipodystrophy is associated with impaired growth hormone (GH) secretion. It remains to be elucidated whether insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), IGFBP-3 protease, and GH-binding protein (GHBP) are abnormal in HIV-lipodystrophy.

Insulin-like growth factor binding-protein-3 (IGFBP–3)

Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2015
The IGF system comprises two IGFs (IGF-1, IGF-2), two IGF-receptors (IGF-R1, IGF-R2), and six IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) with a high affinity for IGFs. The IGFBPs, of which IGFBP-3 is the most abundant in postnatal blood, link with IGFs and prevent them from being degraded; they also facilitate IGF transport through body compartments.

Cellular Actions of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3

1994
Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) plays a major role in regulating growth of cells in vivo and in vitro (1). IGF-I initiates metabolic and mitogenic processes in a wide variety of cell types by binding to specific type I IGF receptors in the plasma membrane (2).

Insulin-like growth factor–binding protein 3 inhibits growth of experimental colocarcinoma

Surgery, 2004
We have previously shown that an important cell growth regulatory protein, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) is depleted in peripheral blood after open--but not laparoscopic--surgery. We have also demonstrated that IGFBP-3 induces apoptosis of human colon cancer cells in vitro.

Serum Insulin-Like Growth Factor Type 1, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-1, and Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-3 Concentrations in Patients with Thyroid Dysfunction

Thyroid, 2001
Thyroid hormones play a role in the regulation of insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) expression, and both IGF-1 and IGFBPs have been shown to be related to the function and growth of the thyroid. Our aim was to evaluate serum concentrations of IGF-1, IGFBP-1, and IGFBP-3 in patients with

Reproducibility of Serum Leptin, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I, and Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-3 Measurements

Hormone Research in Paediatrics, 2008
Background: Many epidemiologic studies examine the effects of single measurements of hormones, including those related to obesity such as insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) or leptin, on disease associations; however, few studies have determined whether these single values accurately reflect measurements over time.

Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3

1994
In plasma and other biological fluids insulinlike growth factors are bound to a family of structurally homologous binding proteins (IGFBPs).

Insulin-like Growth Factor 1, Insulin-like Growth Factor-Binding Protein 3, and Testicular Germ-Cell Tumor Risk

American Journal of Epidemiology, 2008
Studies have consistently shown that taller men are at increased risk of testicular germ-cell tumors. Thus, it is plausible that factors associated with height may also influence risk of these tumors. The authors examined associations between testicular germ-cell tumor risk and circulating concentrations of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and ...

Fluoroquinolones upregulate insulin-like growth factor–binding protein 3, inhibit cell growth and insulin-like growth factor signaling

European Journal of Pharmacology
Fluoroquinolones (FQs), commonly known for their antibiotic properties, exhibit additional pharmacological potential with anti-proliferative effects on various malignant cell types and immunomodulatory responses. Despite these observed effects, the precise mechanisms of action remain elusive.
