Insulin-hypersensitivity in Pellagrins and its significance
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1949Abstract Pellagrins exhibit with notable regularity hypersensitivity to insulin. In two-thirds to three-quarters of patients small doses of insulin (5 units subcutaneously) induce a fall of the fasting blood-sugar, largely exceeding the effect in normal humans and not infrequently progressing to levels between 10 and 20 mg. per cent.

[Delayed hypersensitivity to protamine and immediate hypersensitivity to insulin].
Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift (1946), 1991A 63-year-old female, with type II diabetes mellitus, diagnosed in 1967, was started on combination therapy with sulphonylureas and human depot insulin in May 1989, because of inadequate blood sugar control with sulphonylureas alone. Within 3 months she began to develop nodular skin reactions at the site of injection, 12-24 hours after insulin ...

Delayed Hypersensitivity to Insulin and Its Component Polypeptide Chains
The Journal of Immunology, 1970Abstract Bovine insulin produces a state of pure delayed hypersensitivity in guinea pigs from the 7th to the 13th days after sensitization with 10 µg of insulin in Freund's complete adjuvant. A delayed response in insulin-sensitized animals was readily elicited with insulin and with the isolated B-chain of insulin, while the A-chain, at ...

Insulin Hypersensitivity: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, and Management
1984Hypersensitivity to insulin has received considerable attention in the medical literature for several reasons. One of these is the high incidence of diabetes mellitus; another is the requirement that some cases of diabetes must be treated with the insulin to which they are allergic. In contrast to many drugs which cause allergic reactions, insulin is a

Rubeosis iridis generated by insulin hypersensitivity.
Transactions of the American Ophthalmological Society, 1977There are important similarities between human and experimental monkey rubeosis iridis. We believe that we have developed a useful primate model to study iris neovascularization and that the possible role of immunity to insulin in the pathogenesis of human diabetic rubeosis iridis warrants further detailed consideration.
