The Impact of Institutional Structures on Transport Infrastructure Performance. A Cross-National Comparison on Various Indicators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
It is generally acknowledged that structures and styles of decision-making have an important impact on what transport networks under these regimes look like. However, this has not been a regular line of research up to now. This paper investigates this by

Signal Integrity and Power Integrity [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes. Among them, virtual conferences may become a new norm, or at least an important element for future technical symposia. Although we miss the opportunities to socialize with our colleagues and discuss issues face-to-face, virtual conferences can present different, yet still enjoyable, experiences and allow ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The Integral Text Linguistics as General Text Linguistics. Towards Coseriu’s Text Theory

open access: yesEIRP Proceedings, 2012
For over half a century, the text is one of the objects to which we had dedicated a lot of pages, bothwithin linguistics and the related scientific fields.

Catholic Liberalism and the Liberal Tradition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Criticisms of liberalism are nothing new. All political traditions have their detractors, and as in the past, today’s critics of liberalism include those on the left and right as well as religious believers and those without religious affiliations ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
