Highly-chirped Bragg gratings for integrated silica spectrometers [PDF]
A blazed chirped Bragg grating in a planar silica waveguide device was used to create an integrated diffractive element for a spectrometer. The grating diffracts light from a waveguide and creates a wavelength dependent focus in a manner similar to a bulk diffraction grating spectrometer.

Integrated Raman spectrometers for applications in health and medicine [PDF]
Recent advances in solid-state lasers and high resolution charge-coupled devices have allowed Raman spectroscopy to emerge as a powerful tool in many applications, as for example in the fields of virology, pharmacology, forensic science, cosmetics, bioscience and nanotechnology. The goal of this research is to contribute even more to the wide spread of

Calibration of the spectrometer aboard the INTEGRAL satellite [PDF]
SPI, the Spectrometer on board the ESA INTEGRAL satellite, to be launched in October 2002, will study the gamma-ray sky in the 20 keV to 8 MeV energy band with a spectral resolution of 2 keV for photons of 1 MeV, thanks to its 19 germanium detectors spanning an active area of 500 cm2.

High-throughput speckle spectrometers based on multifractal scattering media [PDF]
We present compact integrated speckle spectrometers based on monofractal and multifractal scattering media in a silicon-on-insulator platform. Through both numerical and experimental studies we demonstrate enhanced optical throughput, and hence signal-to-
