Molecular Characterization of Integrons in Acinetobacter baumannii : Description of a Hybrid Class 2 Integron [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2000
ABSTRACT Twenty Acinetobacter baumannii strains resistant to various antibiotics were analyzed for integron content and sequences of the amplification products. Sixteen clinical isolates had a class 1 integron, 2 contained an additional class 1 or class 2 integron, but no class 3 integron was detected ...

Reversing Antibiotic Resistance: Strategies From Adjuvants to Innovative Therapeutics

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
Molecular reversal strategies against antibiotic resistance act through three mechanisms: inhibiting resistance gene function, blocking horizontal gene transfer, and modulating host defense. Emerging technologies, such as CRISPR‐Cas gene editing, photodynamic therapy, nanotechnology, and ecological competition, further strengthen these approaches ...

Preferential carriage of class 2 integrons in Acinetobacter baumannii CC113 and novel singletons. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Our understanding of the distribution of integrons associated with multidrug resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii isolates around the world remains incomplete. The association between the class 1 and 2 integron A. baumannii-positive isolates (n = 60),

Antibacterial Activity of Estragole From Ocimum tenuiflorum, and Tagetes lucida and Synergistic Effect With Meropenem and Tobramycin Against Multidrug‐ and Extensively Drug‐Resistant (MDR‐XDR) Gram‐Negative Bacteria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study reveals estragole's bactericidal activity against MDR/XDR Gram‐negative pathogens. Synergy with meropenem and tobramycin was observed in > 88% of strains, reducing antibiotic MICs up to 16‐fold. Estragole represents a promising therapeutic adjuvant to enhance antibiotic efficacy and combat antimicrobial resistance.

The European Union Summary Report on Antimicrobial Resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2023–2024

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract This report presents the main findings of the 2023–2024 harmonised antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring in Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from humans, food‐producing animals (broilers, laying hens, fattening turkeys, fattening pigs and bovines under 1 year of age), and derived meat.

Resistance and integron characterization of Acinetobacter baumannii in a teaching hospital in Chongqing, China

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2015
A total of 189 Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were collected in 2011 from a teaching hospital in Chongqing, China. Susceptibility data showed strains carrying integrons were significantly more resistant to all tested antibiotics that strains lacking ...

Genetic relatedness among isolates of Shigella sonnei carrying class 2 integrons in Tehran, Iran, 2002–2003 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: Shigella spp. are major cause of diarrhoeal disease in both developing and developed countries. Shigella sonnei is the serogroup of Shigella most frequently responsible for sporadic and epidemic enteritis in developed countries.
