Waves on the surface of a vapor film under conditions of intensive heat fluxes

Physical Review E, 2008
We investigate surface waves on the interface between a thin vapor film and a layer of liquid in the presence of a high steady heat flux. This problem arises when a metal surface heated to a high temperature is immersed into a cold liquid. The general boundary conditions, which take into account the temperature dependence of saturation pressure on the ...

Temperature Rise and Heat Flux Induced by Laser Beam with Double-Gaussian Intensity Distribution

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1995
The temperature rise and heat flux induced by a CW (continuous wave) double-Gaussian-distributed laser beam have been investigated numerically in a semi-infinite substrate. The temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and surface reflectivity of the substrate material are incorporated in the calculation model.

Applying different heat flux intensities to simultaneously estimate the thermal properties of metallic materials

Measurement Science and Technology, 2012
This paper presents a different method for simultaneously estimating the thermal conductivity and the volumetric heat capacity of metallic samples. The contribution of this work consists in how it obtains the optimal conditions to produce such estimates.

Thermal Optimization of Circular Bodies Submitted to an Intense Heat Flux by Constructal Design

2009 3rd Southern Conference on Computational Modeling, 2009
The present work studies the optimization of a circular body with an intense heat flux by Constructal Design. The problem concerns the minimization of the global thermal resistance of a three-dimensional structure submitted to an intense uniform heat flux, which is cooled through microchannels inserted in the circular body.

Relationship between heat transfer intensity and absolute vorticity flux intensity in flat tube bank fin channels with Vortex Generators

Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, An International Journal, 2008
The heat transfer enhancement can be achieved through the secondary flow. It is found that absolute vorticity flux along the main flow can describe the secondary flow intensity and correspond to the heat transfer enhancement averaged in span wise direction. Investigations to verify this phenomenon are reported. The results show that there has a similar

Simulation of tokamak armour erosion and plasma contamination at intense transient heat fluxes in ITER

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2005
Abstract For ITER, the potential material damage of plasma facing tungsten-, CFC-, or beryllium components during transient processes such as ELMs or mitigated disruptions are simulated numerically using the MHD code FOREV-2D and the melt motion code MEMOS-1.5D for a heat deposition in the range of 0.5–3 MJ/m2 on the time scale of 0.1–1 ms.

Assessment of Explicit Algebraic Stress/Heat-Flux Models for Reduction of Heat Transfer in a Vertical Pipe with Intense Heating

Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers B, 2003
This paper assesses the prediction performance of explicit algebraic stress and heat-flux models for reduction of heat transfer coefficient in a strongly-heated vertical tube. Two explicit algebraic stress models and four explicit algebraic heat-flux models are selected for assessment.
