Three-dimensional imaging of random radiation sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A method to image random three-dimensional source distributions is proposed. We show that, by using a Michelson stellar interferometer in a prescribed fashion, one is able to measure a special form of a three-dimensional degree of coherence.

A new approach to measure reduction intensity on cores and tools on cobbles: the Volumetric Reconstruction Method

open access: yes, 2020
Knowing to what extent lithic cores have been reduced through knapping is an important step toward understanding the technological variability of lithic assemblages and disentangling the formation processes of archaeological assemblages.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Fuzzy image segmentation using location and intensity information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The segmentation results of any clustering algorithm are very sensitive to the features used in the similarity measure and the object types, which reduce the generalization capability of the algorithm.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Assessing Ground Motion Intensity Measures and Structural Damage Measures in Underground Structures: A Finite Element Analysis of the Daikai Subway Station

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Research on the characterization of ground motion intensity and damage of underground structures is limited, while reasonable selection of ground motion intensity measures and structural damage measures is a crucial prerequisite for structural seismic ...

Self-similar stable processes arising from high-density limits of occupation times of particle systems

open access: yes, 2007
We extend results on time-rescaled occupation time fluctuation limits of the $(d,\alpha, \beta)$-branching particle system $(0\alpha/\beta$. We also give high-density limits for the systems with finite intensity measures (without high density no limits ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in
