Structure for fast photonic medium on application of SDM communication using SiO2 doped with GeO2, and F Materials

open access: yesIET Nanodielectrics, 2021
This work presents a new approach for the design of an FMF with a Gaussian core and a trench in the cladding. For the proposed few‐mode fibre (FMF), Fused Silica (SiO2) is considered as a host‐material, whereas Germanium Oxide(GeO2) and Fluorine(F)are ...

Non-Data-Aided SNR Estimation for Bandlimited Optical Intensity Channels

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Powerful and reliable estimation of transmission parameters is an indispensable task in each receiver unit—not only for radio frequency, but also for optical wireless communication systems.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

BER Analysis of a Hybrid Modulation Scheme Based on PPM and MSK Subcarrier Intensity Modulation

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
In order to improve the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of free-space optical (FSO) communication systems employing binary phase-shift keying subcarrier intensity modulation (BPSK-SIM), an innovative hybrid modulation scheme called PPM-MSK-SIM is ...

Plasma optical modulators for intense lasers [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
AbstractOptical modulators can have high modulation speed and broad bandwidth, while being compact. However, these optical modulators usually work for low-intensity light beams. Here we present an ultrafast, plasma-based optical modulator, which can directly modulate high-power lasers with intensity up to 1016 W cm−2 to produce an extremely broad ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Compact Low-Loss Electroabsorption Modulator Using a Graphene-Inserted Metal-Slot-Added Waveguide

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Metal slots have been used to obtain strong light-graphene interaction, which usually requires them to be a few tens of nanometers wide. However, narrow metal slot waveguides have a large intrinsic loss; they are not efficiently connected to conventional

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
