Resistance training does not counteract spatiotemporal, limb support, and angular gait deficits after immobilization: a case study

open access: yesEgyptian Rheumatology and Rehabilitation
Background While immobilization is a common clinical intervention, its isolated effects on gait mechanics and the efficacy of subsequent rehabilitation strategies remain poorly understood. Understanding these isolated effects is crucial as immobilization-

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Maneuver Coordination Service With Reliability and Relevance Enhancements

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems
The increase in vehicle density exacerbates traffic congestion, accidents, and emissions. Automated Vehicles (AVs), while promising improved safety and efficiency, require seamless coordination and communication to unlock their full potential.

Patterns of muscle coordination during dynamic glenohumeral joint elevation: An EMG study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The shoulder relies heavily on coordinated muscle activity for normal function owing to its limited osseous constraint. However, previous studies have failed to examine the sophisticated interrelationship between all muscles.

Molecular Templating Enables Precise CeNiC2/Ni Heterostructures for Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of Bi‐TMCs‐based heterostructures (CeNiC2/Ni‐x%) have been precisely constructed through a “molecular‐template”‐assisted strategy, which exhibits remarkable alkaline HOR performance derived from the strong synergy between Ni and CeNiC2 components.

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...

The Cuttlebone Blueprint for Multifunctional Metamaterials: Design Taxonomy, Functional Decoupling, and Future Horizons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.
