Interaction design in the university

CHI '10 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2010
Interaction design (ID) as a field emerged in the late 1990s with roots in both the HCI and design communities. We ask whether the 'interdisciplinary' agenda of the 3rd paradigm of HCI can be accommodated in the traditional disciplined university. An alternate model of 'interdisciplinarity' offers one way forward, but calls for clarity on the question ...

Design for interaction

Proceedings of the 2009 ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of data, 2009
Research in information retrieval has focused on presenting the most relevant results to a user in response to a free-text search query. Research in database systems assumes a model where the user enters a formal query, and the results are exactly those the user requested.

Interaction Design for Rehabiliation

Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces, 2017
Well-known trends pertaining to the aging of population and the rising costs of healthcare motivate the development of rehabilitation technology. There is a considerable body of work in this area including efforts to make serious games, virtual reality and robotic applications.

Interaction design and children

Interacting with Computers, 2003
This editorial paper introduces an emerging area for human–computer interaction research, which concerns interaction design and children. To avoid treating children as a homogeneous user group, it discusses some perspectives on their development, their use of technology for entertainment and education and, finally, how to involve children in the ...

Temporality in interaction design

Proceedings of the 2011 Conference on Designing Pleasurable Products and Interfaces, 2011
In this paper we argue that temporal aspects of interactions have not yet received enough attention in interaction design research. We find this lack of concern to negatively influence both interaction design practice as well as research. This paper is therefore a first attempt to explore and examine potential techniques that might be usable to ...

Designing Humour in Interaction

2018
Humour in interaction design has received limited attention in design and HCI conferences. In this paper, we present the results of a workshop on humor design conducted at a human-computer interaction (HCI) conference with professional designers and researchers.

Interactive garment design

The Visual Computer, 1990
A method for the design of garments at a workstation is proposed. An underlying body form analogous to a trade mannequin is first represented in the computer. Garment panels are considered to be surfaces of complex shape, whose fit with respect to body form may vary over the surface.

Automotive Interaction Design

2023
This book focuses on the design of the in-car human-machine interface (HMI) and the design-relevant psychology. It combines a design perspective with an applied theoretical perspective. The design perspective informs the reader about how to set up a design process that puts users at the centre of the design process. The theoretical perspective provides
