Simplicity in interaction design
Proceedings of the 1st international conference on Tangible and embedded interaction, 2007Attaining simplicity is a key challenge in interaction design. Our approach relies on a minimalist design exercise to explore the communication capacity for interaction components. This approach results in expressive design solutions, useful perspectives of interaction design and new interaction techniques.

Designing interaction for the cloud
CHI '11 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2011Cloud computing is moving from a buzzword to a set of useful services which promise the benefits of Computing as a utility, removing the responsibility for infrastructure and software application management from end users and organizations. However, the full implications of moving to a cloud-based platform on the user experience are not clear.

Interaction gestalt and the design of aesthetic interactions
Proceedings of the 2007 conference on Designing pleasurable products and interfaces, 2007Although there has been a drastic increase in the research of aesthetics of interaction, we still lack well-defined practical knowledge of how to design aesthetic interactions. In order to develop such knowledge, we adapt three important ways of thinking in designing interactions influenced by traditional design disciplines, namely, 1) understanding ...

2004
Software correctness alone is not sufficient to achieve security, as some viruses and e-mail worms have demonstrated. For example, the Love Letter worm caused widespread damage even though it did not exploit any software flaws. It spread because users were unaware that attempting to view an attachment would damage their files and propagate the worm ...

Aesthetics in interaction design
Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems, 2017This summary describes a doctoral thesis in its final stage. The research addresses users' aesthetic perception during interaction, implying that aesthetic studies in HCI should extend beyond visual perception of beauty as well as not to become limited by the appearance of objects.

Designing superstructures for interaction
Interactions, 2018Interaction design is increasingly about embedding interactive technologies in our built environment; architecture is increasingly about the use of interactive technologies to reimagine and dynamically repurpose our built environment. This forum focuses on this intersection of interaction and architecture.

The design of natural interaction
Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2008This paper addresses the problem of the relationship between humans and technology-enhanced spaces and physical objects (later defined as artifacts). The class of cases here analyzed includes interactive digital signage, information kiosks, home media centers and interactive spaces whose purpose is the communication of a meaning.

Extended Abstracts of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019
Over the last two decades, creative, lean and strategic design approaches have become increasingly prevalent in the development of interactive technologies, but tensions exist with longer established approaches such as human factors engineering and user-centered design.

A Pattern Approach to Interaction Design
Proceedings of the 3rd conference on Designing interactive systems: processes, practices, methods, and techniques, 2000To create successful interactive systems, user interface designers need to cooperate with developers and application domain experts in an interdisciplinary team. These groups, however, usually lack a common terminology to exchange ideas, opinions and values.
