Synchrony of brains and bodies during implicit interpersonal interaction

open access: yesTrends in Cognitive Sciences, 2013
To successfully interact with others, people automatically mimic their actions and feelings. Yet, neurobehavioral studies of interaction are few because of lacking conceptual and experimental frameworks. A recent study introduced an elegantly simple motor task to unravel implicit interpersonal behavioral synchrony and brain function during face-to-face

Alternating chimeras in networks of ephaptically coupled bursting neurons

open access: yes, 2018
In this article, we report the development of an emerging dynamical state, namely, the alternating chimera, in a network of identical neuronal systems induced by an external electromagnetic field.

Higher-order interactions induce anomalous transitions to synchrony

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science
We analyze the simplest model of identical coupled phase oscillators subject to two-body and three-body interactions with permutation symmetry and phase lags. This model is derived from an ensemble of weakly coupled nonlinear oscillators by phase reduction, where the first and second harmonic interactions with phase lags naturally appear.

Understanding social interpersonal interaction via synchronization templates of facial events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Automatic facial expression analysis in inter-personal communication is challenging. Not only because conversation partners' facial expressions mutually influence each other, but also because no correct interpretation of facial expressions is possible ...

Yamove! A Movement Synchrony Game That Choreographs Social Interaction

open access: yesHuman Technology, 2016
This paper presents a design case study of Yamove!, a well-received dance battle game. The primary aim for the project was to design a mobile-based play experience that enhanced in-person social interaction and connection. The game emphasized the pleasures of mutual, improvised amateur movement choreography at the center of the experience, achieved ...
