Balance control threshold to vestibular stimuli
Abstract figure legend (A) We exposed participants standing on force plates to sinusoidal electrical vestibular stimulation (EVS) at varying amplitudes (0.2, 0.4, 0.6 mA) and frequencies (0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1 Hz). (B) Given the role of internal head motion estimates in generating balance‐correcting responses, we used signal detection theory to quantify non‐

Bilateral inhibition by glycinergic afferents in the medial superior olive [PDF]
1. Coincidence-detection of excitatory synaptic potentials has long been considered to be the mechanism by which medial superior olivary (MSO) neurons compute interaural time differences.

Brainstem Neuroadaptations in Rodent Models of Parkinson's Disease
The superior colliculus and periaqueductal gray predominantly contain thin and stubby dendritic spine types. A complete dopaminergic lesion in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) increases dendritic spine density in both the medial and lateral superior colliculi, as well as in the periaqueductal gray.

Why There Cannot be a Single Probabilistic Measure of Coherence [PDF]
Bayesian Coherence Theory of Justification or, for short, Bayesian Coherentism, is characterized by two theses, viz. (i) that our degree of confidence in the content of a set of propositions is positively affected by the coherence of the set, and (ii ...

Abstract Our ability to localize low‐frequency sounds relies on interaural time differences (ITD), a sensitivity that is fundamental to our ability to pinpoint sound sources in azimuth and segregate competing sound sources across a wide range of situations. However, the neural representation of ITD has not been well characterized.

Habituation of vestibular‐evoked balance responses after repeated exposure to a postural threat
Abstract figure legend When stability is threatened, balance reactions to vestibular disturbances are facilitated. To determine if threat‐related changes in vestibular‐motor function are coupled with emotional/autonomic state changes, this study repeatedly exposed individuals to a postural threat (upper panel) while vestibular‐evoked balance responses ...

GABAergic inhibition controls neural gain in inferior colliculus neurons sensitive to interaural time differences [PDF]
We investigated the role of GABAergic inhibition on the responses of inferior colliculus (IC) neurons sensitive to interaural time differences (ITDs) in anesthetized guinea pigs.

The effect of unilateral and bilateral subthalamic stimulation (STN‐DBS) on apathy and motivation was assessed in patients with Parkinson's disease and in rats. While bilateral STN‐DBS induces apathy in patients and decreases reward motivation along behavioural activity in rats, unilateral STN‐DBS does not exert such an effect.

Synaptic Inhibition Influences the Temporal Coding Properties of Medial Superior Olivary Neurons. An in vitro Study [PDF]
The medial superior olive (MSO) functions as a coincidence detector for interaural time and phase differences by integrating excitatory synaptic inputs.

Quality Controls: The Role of Self‐Corrective Science in Explorations of Primate Memory Systems
ABSTRACT In 1978, Mort Mishkin published a landmark paper describing a monkey model of H.M.'s dense, global amnesia. It depended on a combined removal of the amygdala and hippocampus (the A + H lesion) and a memory test called delayed nonmatching‐to‐sample (DNMS).
