Nonequilibrium Photothermal Reactions Under Pulsed Laser Excitation: Mechanisms, Dynamics, and Applications

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
ABSTRACT Pulsed laser excitation offers a compelling approach for accessing nonequilibrium conditions in catalysis by delivering energy to surfaces in a highly localized and time‐controlled manner. In contrast to continuous‐wave irradiation, pulsed lasers concentrate energy into extremely short bursts—ranging from femtoseconds to nanoseconds—which can ...

Multivariate analysis and digital twin modelling: Alternative approaches to evaluate molecular relaxation in photoacoustic spectroscopy

open access: yesPhotoacoustics, 2023
A comparative analysis of two different approaches developed to deal with molecular relaxation in photoacoustic spectroscopy is here reported. The first method employs a statistical analysis based on partial least squares regression, while the second ...

Diffusion of photoexcited carriers in graphene

open access: yes, 2012
The diffusion of electron-hole pairs, which are excited in an intrinsic graphene by the ultrashort focused laser pulse in mid-IR or visible spectral region, is described for the cases of peak-like or spread over the passive region distributions of ...

Germanium-on-silicon planar concave grating wavelength (de)multiplexers in the mid-infrared [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mid-infrared wavelength (de)multiplexers based on planar concave gratings (PCGs) fabricated on a germanium-on-silicon waveguide platform are presented. PCGs with two different types of gratings (flat facet and distributed bragg reflectors) are analyzed ...

Free‐Space Time‐Bin Encoded Quantum Key Distribution from Near‐ to Mid‐Infrared Wavelengths

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
This work investigates free‐space communication based on quantum key distribution (QKD) in the mid‐infrared. Time‐bin encoded QKD is simulated, and it is demonstrated that a free‐space QKD link operating in the mid‐infrared outperforms configurations based on conventional near‐infrared wavelengths under various weather scenarios, with a particular ...

Portable tunable interband cascade laser spectrometer using thin-film waveguides for food contaminant analysis

open access: yesAIP Advances
Interband cascade lasers (ICL) are high output power mid-infrared light sources with low power consumption, serving as a viable alternative to more commonly applied quantum cascade lasers.

High order optical sideband generation with Terahertz quantum cascade lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Optical sidebands are generated by difference frequency mixing between a resonant bandgap near-infrared beam and a terahertz (THz) wave. This is realized within the cavity of a THz quantum cascade laser using resonantly enhanced non-linearities. Multiple

Double Helical Plasmonic Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 20, 9 March 2026.
Plasmonic double helical antennas funnel circularly polarized light to the nanoscale, offering strong chiroptical interaction and directional light emission. Extending a single helix design tool, this study combines numerical modeling with experimental validation, revealing large, broadband dissymmetry factors in the visible range.

Towards unstrained interband cascade lasers

open access: yesApplied Physics Express, 2017
We propose designs for the active region of an interband cascade laser by utilizing a combination of In(As,Sb) and (Ga,In)(As,Sb) materials in a type-II system for strain control and to eventually make the entire quantum well lattice-matched to GaSb or InAs substrates.

Electron–Matter Interactions During Electron Beam Nanopatterning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 21, 12 March 2026.
This article reviews the electron–matter interactions important to nanopatterning with electron beam lithography (EBL). Electron–matter interactions, including secondary electron generation routes, polymer radiolysis, and electron beam induced charging, are discussed.
