Modification of interfacial forces by hydrophobin HFBI

Soft Matter, 2013
Using a surface force balance, we have measured the forces between bare (hydrophilic) mica surfaces, and between hydrophobized mica surfaces, in each case coated with the amphiphilic protein hydrophobin (HFBI) from Trichoderma reesei. We additionally characterized these surfaces by contact angle measurements and AFM. The results are consistent with the

Silicon/Molecule Interfacial Electronic Modifications

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2008
Electronic structures at the silicon/molecule interface were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, inverse photoemission spectroscopy, and Kelvin probe techniques. The heterojunctions were fabricated by direct covalent grafting of a series of molecules (-C6H4-X, with X = NMe2, NH2, NO2, and Mo6 oxide ...

Interfacial conformational modifications in a polypeptide

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1977
Abstract Poly-γ-methyl- l -glutamate (PMG) spread as a monolayer at the air/water interface is capable of existing either in the α (helix coil) or in the β (pleated sheet) conformations. By suitable choice of a spreading solvent, the investigator may control which conformation is dominantly present in the interface.

Interfacial Modification in Organic and Perovskite Solar Cells

Advanced Materials, 2019
AbstractOrganic bulk heterojunction solar cells (OSCs) and hybrid halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are two promising photovoltaic techniques for next‐generation energy conversion devices. The rapid increase in the power conversion efficiency (PCE) in OSCs and PSCs has profited from synergetic progresses in rational material synthesis for ...

Modification of the gold/graphite interfacial energy by interfacial adsorption of nickel

Journal of Materials Science, 1995
The effects of nickel additions on the energy of gold/graphite interfaces was investigated. Nickel was found to segregate to the interface forming an adsorbed layer. Solid-state wetting measurements showed that the contact angle of gold on graphite was decreased by 7.8° by the addition of 15 at % Ni.

Interfacial Structural Modification of Martensitic Transformations

Materials Science Forum, 2007
The free energy function of martensitic transformation is established using Landau polynomial. According to the free energy function, the interfacial structural modification of austenite-martensite with the chemical driving force of martensitic transformation and elastic constants of materials is discussed.

Generalizing interfacial modification in polymer blends

Polymer, 2012
Abstract Today, the use of immiscible polymer blends is ubiquitous, nevertheless the principal technical hurdle to developing a novel blend material remains the effective compatibilization of the interface. In order to be effective, the compatibilizer must locate at the interface of the phases, saturate the interface, occupy an optimal interfacial ...

Toughening and reinforcement of HDPE/CaCO3 blends by interfacial modification?interfacial interaction

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1997
To improve the mechanical properties and structure of HDPE/CaCo 3 composites, a type of modifier, consisting mainly of carboxylated polyethylene (CPE), and a type of CaCO 3 grafted with acrylamide (CaCO 3 -A) were used. The carboxyl group content of CPE was from 1 to 10%.
