Performance of the Interferon Gamma Release Assays in Tuberculosis Disease in Children Five Years Old or Less

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) were developed for the indirect or immunologic diagnosis of tuberculosis infection; however, they have also been used to assist in difficult to diagnose cases of tuberculosis disease in adults, and to a lesser ...

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

The Significance of Sensitive Interferon Gamma Release Assays for Diagnosis of Latent Tuberculosis Infection in Patients Receiving Tumor Necrosis Factor-α Antagonist Therapy

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Objective We compared two interferon gamma release assays (IGRAs), QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) and T-SPOT.TB, for diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in patients before and while receiving tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α antagonist ...

Serial interferon-gamma release assays for latent tuberculosis in dialysis patients with end stage renal disease in a Korean population

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2015
BackgroundSerial interferon-gamma-release-assay (IGRA) result can show variance due to within-subject variation and difference in host immune status, and may be affected by latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) treatment.

Automating Vascular Biology: An End‐to‐End Automated Workflow for High‐Throughput Blood Vessel‐on‐a‐Chip Production and Multi‐Site Validation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
AngioPlate384 is a 384‐well open‐top platform that automates production of more than 100 miniaturized, perfusable blood vessels embedded in hydrogel and supported by stromal cells. Stromal‐endothelial co‐culture strengthens blood vessel barrier function and yields responses useful for translational planning. Scalable and automation‐ready, it suits drug

Diagnosis of latent tuberculosis: Can we do better?

open access: yesAnnals of Thoracic Medicine, 2009
Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is often diagnosed by the tuberculin skin test (TST). The latter has several limitations with regard to its sensitivity and specificity.

Exploiting the neoantigen landscape for immunotherapy of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Immunotherapy approaches for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) have met with limited success. It has been postulated that a low mutation load may lead to a paucity of T cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME).
