Impact of exposure to interferon beta-1a on outcomes in patients with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis: exploratory analyses from the PRISMS long-term follow-up study

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2011
Objective: To explore the effects of exposure to subcutaneous (sc) interferon (IFN) beta-1a on efficacy in patients with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) enrolled in the PRISMS (Prevention of Relapses and disability by Interferon beta-1a ...

Quantifying the Impact of Ocrelizumab on Paramagnetic Rim Lesions in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) are a subset of chronic active multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions marked by iron‐laden microglia and macrophages. Ocrelizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD20+ B cells, suppresses acute MS activity, but its effect on PRLs remains unclear. In a longitudinal study of 29 ocrelizumab‐treated patients with at least

Marked Long‐term Improvement in Lung Function in Melanoma Differentiation‐associated Protein 5 (MDA5) Antibody Positive Dermatomyositis Patients: Experience of a Single Center Longitudinal Cohort in North America

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation‐associated gene 5 antibody (MDA5 ab) associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 ab DM were identified in a single center longitudinal cohort of 352 patients with ...

USE OF INTERFERON BETA-1A FOR INTRAMUSCULAR ADMINISTRATION IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS: EFFICACY, SAFETY AND ADHERENCE TO THERAPY

open access: yesПедиатрическая фармакология, 2009
Immunomodulatory drugs reduce relapse rate and disease progression in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis but extensive data are not available on the effectiveness and tolerability of these drugs in childhood or adolescence.

Region‐to‐Region Unidirectional Connection In Vitro Brain Model for Studying Directional Propagation of Neuropathologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Advanced 3D Platforms for Modeling CNS Neuroinflammation: Cell Integration, Techniques, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the roles of key central nervous system cell types, the extracellular matrix, and the blood‐brain barrier in neuroinflammation, and their integration into diverse 3D culture systems. It examines major incorporation strategies, including direct co‐culture, hydrogel encapsulation, transwell migration assays, and bioprinting ...

A one-year prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, quadruple-blinded, phase II safety pilot trial of combination therapy with interferon beta-1a and mycophenolate mofetil in early relapsing—remitting multiple sclerosis (TIME MS)

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2010
Background: Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is an oral DNA base synthesis inhibitor with immunomodulatory effects on B cells, T cells, and macrophages. Objective: To conduct a safety and tolerability pilot study of interferon beta-1a (IFN-b1a) in combination
